Coaching my managers

Spend at least an hour every day with your assistant/shift manager. This enables you to communicate the day’s activities, goals. This also enables you time to teach and coach your managers to maintain operational and profitability targets.

Its Time…

Folks,

It’s time to deliver profitability and operational progress. It is easy to hit operational targets(OER, SOS, Guest Trac) without hitting the profitability(food, cash, labor, R&M, Ops) targets. On the other hand, it is easy to hit the profitability targets without achieving the operational targets. We cannot have one without the other.

Having said that, it takes a lot of skill, talent and daily focus to achieve both. There are unexpected situations that are thrown at you every day. For example, installation of new register systems, learning the new system. However, the great managers overcome these situations and still deliver in the areas of profitability and operations.

How do great managers achieve these goals consistently?

  1. They have a well thought-out operational and profitability plan. Everyone on their team is aware of the plan.
  2. They put in tremendous effort in training and communicating this plan. They spend 80% of their time teaching and coaching their team. They are very aggressive in expecting productivity out of their team. They are constantly developing their team and pushing them hard to deliver standards. They understand that that their team’s performance is a reflection of the manager’s training and coaching abilities.
  3. They are very disciplined in ensuring that daily tasks are done properly and on time. The entire team are very disciplined in the areas of punctuality, deadlines, image, and systems. They never give excuses.

Great Planning + Tremendous Effort + Consistent Discipline= Continued Progress

Are you a great manager? Let your Operations and Profitability do the talking….
